In the lead up to the July COAG meeting next week, the Australian Science Media Centre will bring together some of the country’s best water experts to brief the media on the current water situation and the harsh realities we still haven’t confronted.

The briefing discussed the following issues:

COAG Water Reform July 2008 - Another "historic agreement" or real water?
Water Policy – How it will need to change to reflect reality
Water - the social dimension
Fixing the leaks in water trading – why the current system is open to abuse and just doesn’t work
Groundwater – it’s missing from the discussion list and yet it’s crucially connected to the surface water everyone’s arguing about
